Successful Alternative Acne Treatments

It is believed by the Chinese that acne is caused by heat and toxins carried in the bloodstream. Some people believe that acne is the result of poisons that are discharged into the skin due to poor digestion. Although opinions vary on the cause, most agree that there are several alternative treatments that can prevent or even cure acne.

The most basic alternative acne treatment is to follow a low fat diet, maintain proper hygiene and consume the appropriate vitamins. Saturated fat intake should be very low because it can damage the tissue in the body and induces inflammation. Also, it has been said that foods that may cause the body to build up heat, like coffee, garlic or other spicy foods, should be avoided.

Vitamin A helps maintain healthy skin, so it is vital to include a sufficient quantity in the diet. Zinc should also be included as it helps transport nutrients to the cells. In girls and women, menstruation sometimes causes acne to flare up. If that is the case, Vitamin B-6 can assist in regulating hormone production. Maintenance of daily bowel movements can be facilitated by eating a high fiber diet. In addition, acidophilus capsules may improve digestion.

There are several alternate treatments available for acne that are designed to be put directly on the skin. Some of these treatments call for a honey facial, which will cause your skin to be revitalized. To indulge in one of these facials, apply raw honey to your face and leave it on between five and ten minutes.

Another method of choice is tea tree oil, which is also applied directly on the skin. It is believed that this will prevent bacteria from growing on the skin.

Another method to treat acne and pimples is to use exfoliants. Alpha-hydroxyl acids, glycolic and lactic acids, which are found in citrus fruits, are believed to keep dead skin cells from building up. For example, lemon juice mixed with water can be applied to the face, allowed to dry for about ten minutes and then rinsed off. Those with sensitive skin may add more water to the mixture to reduce the “burning sensation”.

Alternate pimple treatments sometimes come in the form of oils made by herbalists. Some recommend using capsules of either evening primrose or black current seed oil. Others believe Echinacea or Goldenseal teas will bring better results.

Exercise, as well as relaxation is important in the practice alternative treatments for acne. It is essential to ones well being that the body is at its peak level. Alternative acne treatments tend to be controversial, especially with doctors, but the success of them depends greatly on the person and the degree of severity of the acne they are suffering with.

How to Choose the Best Acne Treatment

Aug 14, 2008 @ 03:41 pm by David Warple
by David Warple

There is no one single treatment that will cure acne in most cases. This despite there being many available medical treatments. Normally, a person will undergo several different treatments prescribed by their doctor before finding the one that works.

Acne is often difficult to treat. The reason is that every person’s acne problem is unique. Large amounts of experimentation with treatments, and some trial and error, are the only way to find the treatment that will work. Stubborn types of acne illustrate this well. The professional experience of a doctor or dermatologist, especially one with significant experience treating acne, offers the most benefit.

There are some strict “no no’s” when dealing with acne. One should never scrub skin that is affected by acne. Doing so will irritate and inflame the acne, causing more pimples and prolonging the healing process.

The symptoms you are experiencing will determine the treatment you will receive. The focus will either be unplugging pores, killing bacteria with antibiotics, reducing the amount of oils (such as Accutane), or altering the hormones that stimulate the sebaceous glands or oral contraceptives.

The first thing that most physicians will prescribe is a topical cream. While this is not a cure, it may help reduce the symptoms of acne. An oral antibiotic may be added to the regimen if the topical cream does not prove to be effective on its own.

Topical creams usually contain benzoyl peroxide, which is effective, but should only be used in small doses. Originally this was considered safe, but studies have shown that prolonged use or overuse can result in premature aging of the skin.

It is not advisable to attempt to deal with acne on your own. Pimple removal should only be attempted by a doctor in a sterile environment. It is essential that you find a highly-skilled, well-experienced physician to assist you in your quest to banish acne.

Realize too that you will have to be patient as it takes time to cure acne, no matter which treatment(s) are used. Oddly enough, even a treatment that is effective may cause your skin to get worse before it improves. Normally a treatment must be used consistently for four to six weeks before results will be noticeable. Add to this the fact that you may have to try a few treatments before you find the one that is effective, and you can see that it may take months of treatment before your acne is under control. So try not to be discouraged when seeking a cure for this annoying condition.

Live Your Life Acne Free

Aug 14, 2008 @ 01:36 pm by Marcel Stephenson
by Marcel Stephenson

To live an acne free life may sound a bit overboard but getting control of acne is very important. Why is it important? Because it has probably been running and ruining your life up to now. If you have a very severe case you might want to see a dermatologist.

Most acne conditions do not have to actually involve the dermatologist. Sometimes the solutions are right under your nose. It’s really a matter of, knowing the enemy.

Oil, dirt and bacteria are the three main culprits that cause acne. Oil is somebody your body produces and bacteria is eliminated in the oil so dirt is the bad one. All these combined with dead skin cells will clog your pores and become inflamed.

This infection results in acne. Pimples start to form because your pores are clogged and congested and bacteria helps to spread the infection. When the surrounding areas are infected you have an acne breakout.

The real problem is the overproduction of oil and bacteria, therefore getting rid of the dirt by washing is the easiest.

The excessive oil is mixed with the body’s bacteria to be eliminated from the body through the sweat. This is one of the reasons, that sweat has an odor to it. When everything becomes backed up, the acne is a result of this. So, controlling acne has a lot to do with keeping the skin’s pores unclogged of dead skin cells and external dirt.

You have to pamper and take care of yourself and the acne, it is more important than trying to rid yourself of it. Proper, thorough maintenance from your side is therefore needed.

You have to treat acne maintenance like a job, it is ongoing but worth while if the result is getting rid of acne.

You will have to scrub with a defoliant scrub pad twice a day. This will help to remove dead skin cells from the skin surface. You also have to follow this up with a mild soap and soft cotton cloth 3 times a day to clean the acne area.

Only use all natural, mild treatments. You should never use harsh chemical products unless you have a sever case of acne. These chemicals are so harsh that they make the acne worse so read the labels before buying any treatment.

You have to treat acne from the outside and the inside. Your diet is important. Pay attention to what you eat if you find that you are having breakouts. Many junk foods have additives and preservatives that could cause an allergic reaction while being processed.

You can live acne free. Small adjustments make a big difference and you will get used to it quickly. Controlling acne and realizing what causes it helps you to stay in control and overcome it.

The Link between Exercise and Acne

Aug 14, 2008 @ 12:38 am by David Warple
by David Warple

Not only is a moderate amount of exercise good for maintaining a healthy body and for managing stress, it is also very beneficial to your skin. There are people who think that exercise makes their acne worse, but if your acne gets worse due to exercise, it is normally because of something you are putting on your body rather than what you are doing to it. There are certain factors to consider when determining if exercise is actually aggravating your acne.

One factor is make-up. There are oil-free and non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) products available, but they will still clog the pores if worn during heavy exercise. Wear as little make-up as possible while exercising. When you are finished, wash it off as soon as possible.

Although there have been studies that have concluded sunlight in small amounts can help to lessen acne, prolonged exposure has been proven to clog pores and cause damage. Some kinds of acne medicine can even elevate how sensitive you are to the sun’s rays. You should, therefore, always use sunscreen if you plan on doing your exercises outside. Make sure the sunscreen you choose has no oil and an SPF factor of at least 15 for both UVA and UVB rays. After completing your workout, make sure you wash off the sunscreen as soon as possible, because these products can clog your pores as easily as your make-up does.

Clothing can be a third factor that can cause skin irritation. Synthetic fabrics do not breathe as well as many natural threads, resulting in sweat and heat being trapped against the skin. This trapping can breed bacteria, which is not ideal for the skin. A good tip is to avoid synthetic materials like lycra or nylon exclusively when exercising, instead opt for looser and more aerated fabrics like cotton. Or, as an alternative for the heaviest workouts, purchase clothing that is designed to wick water away from the skin and evaporate it before it can build up on the fabric or the skin’s surface.

Making sure that you have the proper fitting equipment can be the best way to battle friction related breakouts. For instance, you don’t want your wetsuit too tight under your arms. If you use a helmet, ensure it fits properly and does not slide around on your head. Also, line your helmet with a layer of soft, washable cotton fabric, like an old t-shirt.

If possible, shower immediately and put on dry clothes as soon as you possibly can. No matter what exercise routine you do, it is not good for your skin to stay in wet clothes. If it isn’t possible to shower, change into dry clothes and wipe moisture away with a clean towel or medicated pads. When drying your face, blot, don’t wipe. Vigorous wiping can cause make-up, sunscreen, dirt and/or other unseen material to impel deeper into the pores.

Showering quickly after a workout is a great habit to get into. Using an exfoliating cleanser while showering combined with the quicker shower will allow dirt and other accumulation on the skin to be removed quickly. Being gentle in cleansing the skin is optimal, as scrubbing or being overly abrasive can irritate skin further and possibly lead to further skin blemishes developing and current blemishes worsening.

Maintaining a healthy exercise schedule is beneficial for every person, and a healthy body is naturally conducive to healthy skin. You will be more likely to have one if you have the other. Know what causes your skin to become irritated, and take care to avoid those things. Once you have removed those irritants from your exercise routine, your workouts will always be free from breakouts.

Anti aging skin care treatment guide

Aug 07, 2008 @ 02:30 pm by Giselda Marcua
by Giselda Marcua

The anti aging skin care guide is usually created by a cosmetic company. Of course, you may be inclined to believe in the integrity of their claims regarding their anti aging skin care treatment, but more likely than not, they are only interested in your purchase.

One of the best anti aging skin care guides that I came across was created by a dermatologist. The original was not easy to understand, so I’ll give you an abbreviated version and cover the highlights.

It’s not exactly in “laymen’s terms”, but the anti aging skin care treatment that Dr. Kligman recommended truly makes sense. Unlike most of the things that you see on TV, it focuses on taking care of the skin’s health, in order to prevent additional problems and improve appearance.

When a dermatologist writes an anti aging skin care guide, it’s a very rare event but it should be the norm because it makes total sense. Dermatologist in general do not believe in the efficacy of a topically applied anti aging skin care treatment. They as much as doctors are inclined to focus on drugs, injections and other more mainstream medical ideas instead of natural solutions.

A doctor named Albert Kligman believed that if you take care of the outermost of the skin’s layers, then the health of the inner layers will be protected. He recommended different treatments for different conditions. But, for each ingredient, he believed that the manufacturing process should be very specific, or the product would be ineffective. That’s why you often find anti aging skin care treatment that is ineffective. The ingredients may be right, but the manufacturing process is wrong.

One of the ingredients that Dr. Kligman recommended in his anti aging skin care guide was peptides. These are tiny fragments of amino acid proteins found in the skin. One is called hyaluronic acid and the other one is keratin.

Some companies have pursued the use of keratin, but the peptide chains were surrendered inactive by the manufacturer’s incapacity to perform the process. Exclusively “Functional Keratin”, contains active peptide chains and stimulates production of collagen. Functional Keratin, which is created using a patented process, has the ability to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and performs the task from the outside layers towards the inside layers of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid increases firmness, but it is quickly destroyed through an enzymatic process that occurs in the skin’s layers. The best anti aging skin care treatment contains an extract from Japanese kelp that blocks the enzymatic process, so levels of hyaluronic acid natural rise.

Another ingredient Dr. Kligman recommended in his anti aging skin care guide was grape seed extract, because they are free radical scavengers. Grape seed oil is also an effective moisturizer and creates an invisible layer that keeps in moisture. Moist skin has less of a tendency to crack and wrinkle.

The Dr. suggested also that anti aging skin care treatment should contain special compounds that change the light’s reflection, so that a person sees immediate results. This is basically for psychological gain. Many people become very depressed with their appearance.

Functional Keratin has been shown to change the reflection of light in this way, but since it also improves the skin’s health, it is a better choice than other compounds that are purely cosmetic. A complete anti aging skin care guide would contain a book-full of information, but that should be enough to get you started in the right direction.

Find Out Which Acne Treatment Will Work For You

Aug 07, 2008 @ 09:29 am by Marcel Stephenson
by Marcel Stephenson

Not everybody’s acne is the same, if it were there would be a generic treatment that everybody would know about.

Each person’s genetics and chemistry make-up is different. This is what makes us unique, although this is something that causes havoc when trying to find the right acne solution.

With acne, it’s not the same for you as it is for the next person. Some people get mild outbreaks, while it is severe for others, even in the same family.

If you get acne, it is important to get the correct treatment for the acne that you have. Getting the right treatment for your particular skin type is to find what is suitable for it’s treatment and what will be effective.

The cause of acne is not just becoming a teenager. There are a number of unknowns that play a role in this issue. The general cause of acne is a result of the over production of the bodies hormones, in an effort to become adult. This causes the over secretion of sebum, within the sebaceous glands that will mix with the bacteria and dead skin cells, clogging the pores. When a pore becomes infected, then it reacts as a pimple.

To help cure the number one problem an acne sufferer experiences is to clean the pores, because to control oily skin is very difficult. The treatment will differ depending on skin- and acne type.

You cannot use heavy artillery to erase your pimples if you have sensitive skin. Harsh acne treatments are not the answer for your skin type because it may cause blemishes as a reaction to the medication.

If you have a mild skin, you need to seek a mild treatment. Natural treatments are the best because most readily available treatments contain chemicals that can cause a reaction and irritate the outbreak.

Always check the label for the skin type listed, if ever you find that a particular acne treatment is making the condition worse, stop using it.

Because dead skin cells aggravate acne, it is important to remove them. Salicylic acid works very well to help unclog the skin pores.

Oral treatments work well to kill bacteria trapped in the skin, you would do well to look at getting one of these treatments. Since it is the bacteria that causes pimples to become infected and spreads the problem, an oral treatment is a worth while effort.

You need to pay attention to your skin and continually use treatments that work.

Unfortunately, acne is an ongoing fight. As soon as you fight off one battle, more acne can reoccur, and will; if you do not stay on target with your battle against it. Find what works for you, and then use it religiously; even if you see no more signs of it reappearing. This is the only way to stay rid of acne.

Anti Aging Skin Care System

Aug 01, 2008 @ 01:35 pm by Giselda Marcua
by Giselda Marcua

There is an informative source for an anti aging skin care review that is really useful. There is also a new movement geared towards safer cosmetics. Of course, the best anti aging skin care system will be a part of that movement.

In the U S, the cosmetic companies can get away with almost anything. The Food and Drug Administration allows them to use almost any ingredient in their cosmetics, if not for a few ones. And apparently, the reason for these few exceptions is a concern about the factory’s labor force.

No one seemed to be concerned about the effects of unsafe ingredients on the consumer’s health. But now, an online database for cosmetic and anti aging skin care review actually lists the ingredients and grades products according to safety.

All this free service asks you to do is sign up for their newsletter, but because they are a non-profit organization they do accept donations. You can freely search for an anti aging skin care system by name in the database. In addition, you can search by category and products. The products will be listed from safest, to most hazardous.

You’ll be astonished to find out how many products fall in the hazardous category. For example, did you know that your lipstick may contain lead, a toxic metal that causes brain damage, neurological problems and birth defects?

33 different brands were tested and 61% contained lead. Companies that you may count on for safety, including L’oreal, Cover Girl and Christian Dior tested positive. That’s a serious health threat, but the cosmetic companies say it’s safe.

Some ingredients are not hazardous, they are just the wrong choice for an anti aging skin care system. For example, one anti aging skin care review that I read was for a “lip plumper” that contains paraffin. Paraffin and other mineral oil derivatives interfere with the skin rejuvenation process. That’s a fact I learned from reading a dermatologist’s viewpoint on safe and effective creams and lotions.

The fact that paraffin hampers the skin’s renovation process is a something I discovered on a dermatologist’s viewpoint on safe and effective creams and lotions. A customer that wrote the anti aging skin care review regarding the “lip plumper” said that the product was ineffective. But even if it had achieved plumping effect, it would have been a hindrance because ulterior effect would have been dryer and damaged looking lips.

How safe is the Avon anti aging skin care system? That should have to be safe, one would think. But, by looking at the ingredients in Avon’s Ultimate transforming cream, the first thing that I noticed was titanium dioxide. This ingredient is a sunscreen that has recently been listed as a possible carcinogenic.

The anti aging skin care review at Skin Deep rates the Avon anti aging skin care system as extremely hazardous. The compounds included in the product are known to cause developmental and reproductive toxicity. Other ingredients in the product are neurotoxins, endocrine disruptors and irritants.

Avon’s anti aging skin care system is “enhanced” which means that it is easily absorbed into the skin’s layers. This creates new complications, because it can enter the bloodstream more easily than other cosmetics, so there is a bigger risk.

Strangely, I didn’t see anything in the ingredients that might be beneficial except vitamin A, and that’s not the most beneficial vitamin for the skin. There are effective products out there, but you probably will not find an “anti aging skin care review” that mentions them, because they are not heavily advertised. But, if you take the time to look for them, I know you’ll be pleased.

Reduce Acne..stop using traditional insect repellents

Aug 01, 2008 @ 01:17 am by Dr. Green
by Dr. Green

How frustrating is it to go out during the summer and have to deal with annoying mosquitoes and worry about applying an oily mosquito repellent on your skin. You have to debate if you want to use insect repellent and if you should spray it on your face. If you battle from acne or sensitive skin this can be a major headache.

Traditional mosquito repellents are oil based and contain harmful chemicals that can cause your skin to break out. There are certain chemical based insect repellents that are linked to causing your pores to produce excess oil. If you are out during the day and have repellent on your hands there are going to be times that you are going to touch your face.

Scientist have discovered there are over 300 chemicals that our body produces that mosquitoes are attracted to. They have kept some of these chemicals a secret, but has made public that these chemicals are embedded in our lactic acid. Lactic acid is excreted from our pores.

This is also the reason why some people get bit more than other people. Some people produce more lactic acid that others and some produce more chemicals that the mosquitoes are attracted to. It?s just like body odor.. some people smell worst than others when they sweat or not.

The way most mosquito repellents work is by reducing and changing the chemical structure of your lactic acid by clogging your pores. Think about how certain deodorants keep you from sweating and smelling awful. Deet which is the active ingredient in most insect repellents clog your pores and prevents your lactic acid from being identified by mosquitoes. The major problem with Deet is that it has many harmful side effects. There are also certain parts on your body that produce more lactic acid than others. This is also why people receive more bites in certain spots. The bad news is that if you are prone to acne you produce a larger amount of lactic acid on your face. The last thing you want to do is spray harmful pore clogging insect repellent on your face. There is actually a new product on the market that is scientifically proven to mask the chemicals from your lactic acid without having to clog your pores or apply anything to your skin. It releases a natural aroma that has been proven to cover up and eliminate the chemicals that are found in your lactic acid. It works exactly how Febreze works by eliminating odors in your house.

Anti Aging Natural Skin Care Product

Aug 01, 2008 @ 01:09 am by Giselda Marcua
by Giselda Marcua

Natural anti aging skin care products are the best anti aging skin care lotions and creams. Indeed, naturally occurring compounds are always the best, but synthetics are cheaper and that’s why manufacturers use them.

The subject of anti aging natural skin care products seems fascinating to many people. The cosmetic companies have brainwashed us with their commercials, their advertising, their labeling and their pretty bottles.

Even, dating back to the fourth century BC, people had been aware of the existence of great anti aging skin care products. Traders from other surrounding areas brought different roots, spices and medicinal remedies to the local markets. People could find natural products and learn how to use them. Of course, there were also snake oil salesmen that were quick to make a sale and move on to the next town.

The most effective anti aging natural skin care products are derived from plants, fruits, vegetables, seeds, oils and waxes that have been in existence for thousands of years. But, don’t rely on today’s cosmetic companies to give you good advice.

They are no better than the snake oil salesmen, but instead of disappearing, they introduce their anti aging skin care as “new and improved”. Simply using those words is an advertising gimmick that has been used for years, but still attracts unknowing customers.

Instead of something new and improved, the companies introduce products that rely in the “tried and true” methods for attracting customers, but are not selling the safest and best anti aging natural skin care products. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration regulates the cosmetic industry, but the methods used to regulate this industry differ from those applied to food and drugs.

Cosmetics are not to be ingested so they don’t have to be safe. Only a few ingredients are not allowed. Also, the term “natural” is a much unspecified term since you can use it as long as the substances are naturally occurring. Still, some naturally occurring substances are bad for your skin’s health and should not be included. Others substances are presumed to be carcinogenic, and a few are “known” to cause cancer and birth defects, but the companies willingly include them in their cosmetics.

The best anti aging skin care systems do not contain anything that could be hazardous to your skin’s health. It’s counterproductive. You want to improve your skin’s health, so that it will create new cells, new collagen and elastin fibers.

If it is not a healthy product, it won’t improve your skin. Production of cells, new collagen and elastin fibers will continue to decline unless you find superior anti aging natural skin care products.

Read the labels. There are some things that should be avoided when buying anti aging natural skin care products. The complete list is long and contains a number of unrecognizable and difficult to remember chemical names. But, there are some that are relatively easy to spot, once you know what to look for, and they are also commonly used in cosmetics and skincare products of all kinds.

Mineral oils, petrolatum, paraffin, liquid paraffin and paraffin wax should be avoided for many reasons, but when it comes to the best anti aging skin care they inhibit the skin’s ability to regenerate. Fragrances and preservatives are the most common allergens, and parabens are the most commonly used preservatives. They have been linked to cancer in numerous studies.

Anti aging natural skin care products should contain natural vitamin E, because it moisturizes and provides other benefits, but also because it is a natural preservative. There is much more to learn, but those are subjects for other articles.
