Dries acne blemishes and allows skin to heal. Helps prevent new acne blemishes from forming. Derma-Klear Akne Treatment Soap ..

Will putting toothpaste on a pimple help clear it up?
Using toothpaste will dry and irritate the skin. There are much more effective products available to improve your acne. Invest in a gentle cleanser (soap free and pH balanced). Avoid cleansers with ’significant emollient’ or moisturising’ properties if you have oily skin. Unfortunately, no. The process of controlling acne takes time, even for mild acne. See your GP and he or she will recommend the most appropriate treatment.

If I wash my face often will I still get acne?
The answer is no???and yes. Washing with a mild soap and warm water does eliminate excess make-up, dirt, dead skin cells and other agents that can clog a Sebaceous gland. However, many acne treatment products use alcohol as a base. When those treatments are used often, they dry out the skin which actually damages the dermis (the skin) causing irritation. So, washing twice daily with a mild soap and warm water (no scrubbing, please) will cut down on the acne problem.

What preparation is needed before laser treatment?
Tanning should be avoided. Waxing, plucking, and bleaching should be avoided for at least several weeks prior to treatment. It is fine to trim or shave the hairs, in fact it is best to freshly shave the area just prior to treatment. If you are adverse to shaving, clipping the hairs short is O.K.

What kind of cosmetics and cleansers can an acne patient use?
Look for “noncomedogenic” cosmetics and toiletries. These products have been formulated so that they will not cause acne. Some acne cause irritation or pronounced dryness particularly during the early weeks of therapy, and some cosmetics and cleansers can actually worsen this effect. The choice of cosmetics and cleansers should be made with your dermatologist or pharmacist. Heavy foundation makeup should be avoided. Some over the counter treatments include cleansers, benzoyl peroxide, and salicylic acid. Prescription medications include antibiotics, vitamin A derivatives, and oral contraceptives. Some dermatologists may prescribe acne medications such as Accutane to treat acne.

How do I know if Vilantae is right for me?
Vilantae is something that falls in between traditional applied skin products (soaps, cleansers, toners, topical treatments) and Accutane (isotretinion). There are many people whose acne is not helped by applied products, yet it simply isn’t bad enough to warrant the step up to Accutane (isotretinion). If applied skin products have not worked for you, Vilantae is something you should seriously consider.Absolutely. Look for treatments that soothe and heal the skin rather than irritate it. Also, avoid acne cleansers that are overly-abrasive. These irritate the skin, as well. Products that use natural ingredients rather than harsh chemicals have also been shown to lessen the likelihood of acne and flare-ups. Look for quality in all of your acne treatments and avoid the drugstore remedies that may actually make an acne problem worse.Your awareness of changes to your skin may come as a sudden surprise, but that change doesn’t happen over night. Can You Really Get Rid Of Acne?

Oct 23, 2008 @ 05:57 pm by Mary B Murphy
by Mary B Murphy

Acne is a horrible soul destroying condition and the even more horrific truth is, THERE IS NO REAL CURE! You can try everything, spend your hard earned on products, consult with dermatologists, but your acne stays. Certainly acne is treatable, but you can never totally cure it.

So what can you do with your acne? To start, stop stressing about it! I know you hate it, it’s embarrassing and it’s costing you a fortune, stressing will not help the problem. Even more important, stressing could cause your acne to get worse! You don’t want that, right?

Some things you can do to help your acne are to eat the right foods. What you eat plays a huge role with your skin. The best foods to eat are fruits, vegetables, fish and chicken. A healthy and balanced diet is not only important for controlling your weight and allowing your body to get all the nutrients you need, it also affects the overall health of your skin. Avoid greasy, sugary foods.

Shop around for products but don’t fall for every product that’s released. Different products have varied results on people and skin types. Make sure you purchase non oil based products so your pores can breath and remove dirt etc.

When purchasing a acne care or even beauty product, avoid oil based products like the plague. You can quickly cause noticeable damage to your skin after continued use. Oil based products clog the skins pores which prevent it from breathing and cleansing itself.

Non oil based properties is a big commercial advantage for product owners so you should have no problems finding non-oil based solutions.

When you have persistent acne, avoid trying to treat it yourself. Since acne is complicated, getting advice and treatment from a dermatologist is recommended.

Get professional advice before you commit to a long term expensive treatment such as laser therapy. Be sure also to take the important health related steps I’ve discussed. Eat healthily and stop stressing.

The Kinds of Severe Acne and What Causes Them

Oct 23, 2008 @ 03:29 pm by George Thomas
by George Thomas

Every acne infection is not a severe infection. The severe infections are not many but the scars they cause are surely extensive. There are basically three kinds of severe acne, namely Acne conglobata, Acne fulminans and Gram-negative folliculitis. Though only three, any of this acne wreaks severe damage to a person. The timely diagnosis and right treatment is the only method, which can ensure their control.

Acne conglobata

This is a very severe form of acne. Acne conglobata begins with blackheads on the face. Next it spreads all over and inflamed nodules become associated with them. These nodules then increase in size and finally burst oozing the contents out of the skin. Such nodules cause scarring and if they become ulcerated they cause lot of tenderness and pain in the surrounding area. Acne conglobata is more common in males. Female victims of Acne conglobata are rare.

Besides affecting the face, acne conglobata also affects the trunk i.e. chest, back, upper arms, and also the buttocks and thighs. It is caused by the deterioration of papules and pustules. Some cases of acne conglobata were through the flare up of acne, which were lying unerupted for a long time. Antibiotics and Isotretinoin is the suggested course of treatment for acne conglobata.

Another sever type of acne is Acne fulminans. Acne fulminans is a severe form of Acne conglobata. Acne fulminans infection is not only severe in the sense that it has ulcerating nodules, but it also is accompanied by fever. This form of acne appears suddenly and is accompanied by joint pain and general ill health. Acne fulminans also causes an increase in the white blood cell count. Taking the hormone testosterone may result in outbreaks of Acne fulminans. An outbreak of Acne fulminans can be treated with Isotretinoin, steroids, antibiotics and anti-inflammation agent (aspirin).

The third major form of severe acne is the Gram-negative folliculitis. Bacteria are the reason behind this variety of acne. Bacteria such as Psevdomonas Aerlegniosa and E. coli are important among those. This variety of acne is perhaps the most severe and difficult to manage. Gram-negative folliculitis affects the hair follicles. The hair follicles due to bacterial infection become inflamed and infected. It also causes pus filled pustales an the face. This variety of acne is the result of topical antibiotics (ointments) and tetracycline. Gram-negative follicutitis is best treated with special antibiotics and Isotretinoin.

How Acne Develops

Oct 22, 2008 @ 07:08 pm by Norman Holden
by Norman Holden

One of the conditions which invariably characterizes Acne is inflamed skin pores, these can show up as whiteheads , blackheads , pimples or cysts. Irrespective of age Acne can affect anyone it is , however , more common amongst teenagers.

“Acne Vulgaris” is the common medical term for Acne. It is broadly accepted that bacteria in the pores of the skin is one of the causes of Acne. When the body becomes allergic to this bacteria one of the consequences can be the attraction of white blood cells in the affected pores. This inevitably results in the formation of pus.

The next step is that the pores become clogged even more and this results in the oil which is produced by the oil glands building up.When this occurs the pores which are already clogged and inflamed can become a breeding ground for more bacteria. This is invariably followed by small reddish lumps which can look like boils.

Despite all the technological and scientific advancements Acne still remains with no perfect cure. In essence , once you are unfortunate enough to develop the condition , generally speaking , you just have to be patient until you virtually outgrow it. In the interim what you should be doing is making every effort to make sure the physical effects are minimized.

Some of the things which were believed in the past were that poor personal hygiene and various foods caused Acne. You have undoubtedly been subjected to the usual statements that things like chocolate and fried foods were some of the culprits for causing this condition.

However, science still has not linked diet to acne. Some even scrubbed their face so hard believing that opening the pores and keeping their face squeaky clean all the time will reduce their acne.

Good personal hygiene is important but like most things when it is taken to the extreme such as overwashing acne prone skin it can certainly make the condition worse. Try to use good personal hygiene habits and couple this with a balanced diet and you will in most cases find that this will benefit the skin and your Acne condition.

Get in to the habit of using hypoallergenic or noncomedogenic cosmetic products. These will not clog the pores and this will help to prevent your Acne condition from getting any worse.

5 Methods for Simple Blackhead Removal

Oct 21, 2008 @ 11:54 am by Christopher Mandalsan
by Teresa Tam

Growing up, I had a tough time with my acne. I would look in the mirror each morning wondering when they would ever go away. So after spending so much time and energy doing some research, I found some pretty effective ways for getting rid of acne and clearing up blackheads. Here are some of my top tips for blackhead removal:

Washing Your Face

This may sound so simple, but a lot of people just don’t wash their face properly. I know as a teenager, things are so hectic. During school, we’re asked to attend a physical education class. Then we engage in physical activity and break a sweat. I’ve seen some girls that don’t even want to fuss with their makeup. So they just get towel from their locker and use it to absorb some of the sweat. This is what you don’t want to do, especially if you’re having acne issues.

My rule is to wash your face in the morning, in the evening, and when you really should do it. That includes washing your face after exercising. Pick up a skin cleanser from your local department store that is especially made for morning and night time cleansing. Some cleansers are so strong that you don’t want to use them so often. In fact, some can actually dry out your skin and make it harder to remove the blackheads. Make this a habit and you’ll get rid of blackheads and prevent them from showing up again.

Using Olive Oil

Some people say that you shouldn’t use anything oily on your skin. The truth is that your skin produces oil when your body thinks that your skin needs it. What you want to do is take care of your skin and wash it on a daily basis or when needed.

Olive oil works as a natural moisturizer. By massaging it on your face, you’ll naturally rub it away. Since the olive oil works as a lubricant, you can massage your skin vigorously without causing any harm to your skin.

Using Biore

Have you heard of Biore before? Most people use it to remove old pockets of oil from their face. It’s a white piece of paper that is made to be slightly adhesive when combined with a little water.

So here’s the way to remove blackheads. Take a warm towel and apply it to the area with the blackhead. This will help open up skin pores and allow the blackhead to come out easier. Then, apply the Biore strip to that area. After ten-fifteen minutes, remove the strip lightly. This will pull the blackhead away from the skin.

Using a Facial Scrub

This is a pretty mild, but effective method. The main thing is to use a facial scrub that exfoliates. Typicaly this helps remove old skin. However, it can be effective in removing blackheads as well. Start out by using a warm towel to help open the pores. Then use the facial scrub in a circular motion over the blackhead to help loosen it up. In time, the blackhead will become loose and be lifted away from the skin.

Using a Blackhead Removal Tool

You can find this tool in many department stores for around $15. Before using this, make sure that it is clean. Then use a warm towel or warm steam to open up the pores. Then use the tool to remove your blackhead. Make sure that you follow the instructions that are provided.

?Acne Scar Treatment: Ways To Eliminate Scars

Oct 21, 2008 @ 11:36 am by Robert Billings
by Nathan James

When a person’s acne becomes very serious, it can leave the skin of the face severely scarred. Such scars are can become major sources of both embarrassment and shame for individuals who have to deal with them. Clearly, there is no one who wants to have scars because of their acne problems.

If you are one of the many people out there who is dealing with acne scars, you should know that fortunately, there are effective acne scar treatment options available to you, which is above and beyond your basic acne skin treatment and which is used specifically for acne scars.

Acne Scar Treatment

One acne scar treatment that you can try is to use sandalwood past on the scars. This will help them fade away by adding moisture and protecting the scars from further damage. Rubbing ice cubes on your scars will help in tightening the skin and making it look young.

Your doctor can also write you a prescription for acne scar treatments. Such medications have proven to be very effective for some individuals.

In addition to using different acne scar treatments, it is very important that your scars do not become worse. You can prevent further skin damage by choosing any makeup that you choose wisely and thus avoiding any products that can clog your facial pores. Avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun is also important.

Surgery is really the last resort, if you have tried all other acne scar treatment options and none of them have offered you the results that you are looking for. Some ice pick scars may be removed by “punch” excision of each individual scar, and in this procedure ach scar is excised down to the layer of subcutaneous fat, with the resulting hole in the skin able to be repaired with sutures or with a small skin graft.

Skin grafting is another type of procedure that is available and used for acne scarring. This procedure may be necessary under certain conditions for example sometimes dermabrasion unroofs massive and extensive tunnels caused by inflammatory reaction to sebum and bacteria in sebaceous follicles.

The important thing, regardless of which treatment you decide to try out, is that you know there are some effective options out there and that you can deal with your scarring one way or another. Keep in mind however that if your acne scarring is particularly severe you may not be able to completely remove it.

Foods for Homemade Facial Skin Care

Oct 18, 2008 @ 08:12 pm by Herb B. Lewis
by Herb B. Lewis

There are many foods that make great facial cleansers. Many foods are good for your skin. Nature has given us a wealth of skin care ingredients. The best skin care is natural skin care and what is more natural than food.

You can make a great a natural facial skin care treatment out of oatmeal and honey. A natural skin care recipe using oatmeal and honey is to make a cup of oatmeal, just like you would for breakfast. While the oatmeal is thickening and cooling down, mix in 2 tablespoons of honey, you can also add 2 tablespoons of plain or strawberry yogurt and the juice squeezed from one lemon. Lemon contains natural astringents. This should form a good paste. Apply a layer to your face, avoiding the eyelids. If you get any in your eyes, rinse it out with warm water. After it dries wash it off with warm water, follow with cold water.

You can mix just about any fruit into oatmeal and use it as a mask. Be sure you use organic ingredients whenever possible and you are not allergic to it. Be sure the oatmeal has cooled down before you put it on your face. You can add any of the food listed above. Some other ideas are avocado oil, olive oil, any fruit yogurt and just about any essential oil. Always use essential oils in moderation and never

Green tea has detoxifying properties and it is loaded with antioxidants. Use the best tea you can find and steep it long enough to do some good, do not let it boil. I like a loose-leaf tea; they are stronger than tea bags. The green teas from Chinese herb shops often have the best selection. I discover a new green tea every time I go into one. You do not have to do a good job straining the brew, some leaf in the oatmeal is good. As with anything you are going to smear on your skin you want to start with a small amount, test a little to make sure you do not have a reaction to it. Reactions do not happen often but you still want to do this with everything.

Avocado is a fruit because it has a stone. Avocado is loaded with vitamins A, C, E, iron, potassium, niacin, lecithin, pantothenic acid and protein not usually found in a fruit. It also has heart healthy monounsaturated fat that will not increase your bad cholesterol. Avocado oil is classed as a vegetable oil. It makes a rich, deep penetrating oil. Just by itself it makes a great dry skin mask.

Homemade skin care does not get any simpler. Carefully cut your avocado in half and remove the pit with a spoon. Spoon the good parts out into a bowl. Your avocado can now be mashed using a fork, blender, potato masher, food processor or your hands. Mash it up and smear it on. Leave it on for about 20 minutes then rinse it off with water. Avocado perishes fast when exposed to the air. You can squeeze lemon juice over the remainder and keep in the refrigerator but avocado is best used while it is fresh. The best thing to do is smear the leftovers on your chest and arms. Let it dry then soak in the bath to wash it off. After you add the lemon juice it can be a bit tough on sensitive skin but it makes a great natural skin care astringent.

Watermelon juice makes one of the best skin care products ever. It cleans, re-hydrates and exfoliates skin, leaving it fresh and gorgeous. Crush up a slice of watermelon and apply it over your face, neck, arms and anywhere you like. Leave it on for 20 minutes or more. Rinse the juice off using warm water, splash your face and neck with cold water to close your pores. Your face will feel fresh and clean. The pulp has fiber that will scrub toxins out of your pours.

To close pores try rubbing your skin with cold watermelon juice with pulp. You can add a cup of mint tea for an uplifting mix. For oily skin, mix chickpea powder with the juice and pulp. The chickpea powder will make a watermelon paste that will soak up the oil in your skin. Let it dry then wash it off.

Another recipe for oily skin is to take half cup chickpea powder, one teaspoon of turmeric powder and half a cup of organic milk. Mix it up. Apply this paste all over the forehead, face and neck. Wait a few minutes and wash it off. The chickpea powder absorbs the oil and the milk nourishes your skin.

Aloe vera is thought to be one of the best natural skin care ingredients both for the insides and outsides. Smear it on your skin and drink it with juice. Aloe vera is a complex combination of some 300 ingredients including polysaccharides, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, lignins, saponins and anthraquinones. The inner gel has been used for ever to soothe skin, heal cuts, sooth sunburns and keep people regular. Aloe vera can be toxic in excess, over doing it can include diarrhea, hepatitis and kidney dysfunction. Follow the dosage on the bottle, just because a normal dose is good does not mean an over dose is better.

Natural skin care is an experiment, try new things and see what works for you.

People suffering from acne will try anything under the sun to treat the problem. The anything here is usually the advertised and over the counter treatments available easily in the market and on the Internet. They will keep changing the brand names of the over the counter available products and do not get easily disappointed by their little or no effect. People are also looking for products that are natural and have lesser side effects. They find herbal acne treatments giving them what they are looking for.

Knowing the constituents:
