Acne is a problem we all have. And contrary to popular belief, this problem doesn’t end with our teenage years. Acne is caused by the excess oil in our skin that clogs up our pores. And as long as our skin produces oil, we will always battle with acne. Though the most common forms of acne appear on our face (pimples, blackheads, whiteheads), acne can also sprout on our backs, scalp and other areas on our bodies. How do we get rid of acne? The following are the top three tips to banish your skin enemies.

1. Keep yourself clean. This point cannot be stressed emphatically enough. Acne is caused by bacteria and dirt, so it is of supreme importance that you keep yourself clean. Take frequent showers. Wash your face two to three times a day. Use a mild soap and stay away from harsh ingredients in skin products. Anti-bacterial soaps tend to have really stringent ingredients that could hurt sensitive skin. Use skin toner. Moisturize. Basically, follow the rules your mother told you about keeping your face clean. After all, mother knows best.

2. Keep away from oily substances. When you have problems with acne that means your skin is already overproducing oil. Thus, you shouldn’t aggravate the problem by ingesting or applying more oil. Stay away from oily food. Don’t use oil-based skin products or make-up. Use loose foundation instead of the cream ones. Oil is your enemy. Remember that.

3. Rehydrate and sleep well. Drinking water not only does wonders for your body, but your skin as well. It helps your system flush out toxins. So, drink eight or more glasses of water every day. Drink water as soon as you wake up and before you go to bed. It is also important to get six to eight hours of shut eye each night to combat stress. Stress makes your body produce more oil - believe it or not!
